Celebrating and Remembering

David White Walden, 76, most recently of Cambridge, Md., passed away at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City on Monday, January 5, 2015 after a hard-fought battle with esophageal cancer. David was born in Washington, DC, on May 29, 1938 to Reuben Algernon Walden and Jennie Louise White. He attended Surrattsville High School and then the University of Maryland on a baseball scholarship, graduating with a major in Government and Politics in 1961. He retired from the federal government as a member of the Senior Executive Service in 1984, spending most of his career at NASA, GSA and finally SSA. After his retirement from federal service, he moved to Harford County and opened several antique shops in Havre de Grace, Md. He loved boating, golfing, the arts, standard poodles and BMWs. Always the perennial optimist, he never gave up on anyone or anything. He was happiest solving problems, unraveling mysteries and tracking down the missing pieces to any puzzle. He is predeceased by his mother and father; two older brothers, Reuben, Jr., and Eugene; three nephews, John Ryan, Steven and Craig; and his dogs, Moose and Magic. He is survived by his four daughters, Cheryl McFall, Laura Robison, Alcora Walden and Carey Walden; his grandsons Michael, Mark and Christopher; his granddogs Aslan, Eowyn and Rigby; his great granddaughters Cambree, Shaylee and Harper; his sister, Marsha Matthews; his brother, Ronald Walden; his nieces Linda, Susan, Debra, Cynthia and Heather; his nephews Joseph, Robert and Barry; and countless friends that he considered family. Never was there a father more proud of his daughters and he is greatly missed, but let all his friends take solace holding him in the Light and each other in their hearts. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, January 31 at the Kent Island Yacht Club from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Museum of the American Indian, the Huntsman Cancer Foundation (Salt Lake City) or The George School (Newtown, Pa.).
